Public Interest Disclosures in WA (Australia)

4 Modules

Description

Whistleblowers make Australia a better place, they bring integrity and transparency to our democracy.
– Kieran Pender, senior lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre Public interest disclosures (PIDs) are reports about wrongdoing in the public sector that service the public interest. They alert oversight agencies to potential misconduct and allow for the investigation and prosecution of serious wrongdoing. In WA, public sector whistleblowing is regulated under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2003 (WA). Using a combination of scenarios and quiz-based learning, this course ensures that learners are familiar with their statutory obligations and equipped with practical skills necessary for making a disclosure. A dedicated manager’s module outlines the obligations on Principle Executive Officers, managers, and PID Officers when receiving a disclosure, or referring a whistleblower to an authorised person. Risk management processes and mandatory PID policies are also explored in this module, as well as the rules surrounding the investigation of a PID.

Who should do this training?

This training is designed for public officials as defined in the Act, as generally any employees, contractors or volunteers working for a WA Government agency. This also includes statutory officers, MPs and their staff members. A management oriented module outlines compliance obligations in respect of receiving PIDs.
